Memorial Weekend

Our Memorial Day traditions happen in Delta Ut
Oddly enough both Mikey and I have deep connection to this little farm town. Mikey mom was born and raised there and my Grandparents were born and raised there and my Grandpa even became the mayor of the town. Both of us have amazing red neck farm memories of visiting there as we grew up.
For memorial day the Tolberts have a family reunion. My grandma owns the movie theaters and so everyone piles in and watches as we enjoy all the candy drinks and popcorn we can get down. This year we watched Pirates of the Carribbean and Kung Fu Panda. After the flicks are over everyone grabs their sleeping bags and we lines the hallways, film room and lobby and try to sleep.
The next morning there is a service at the grave sides both in Sutherland and also in Lyndyll that we go to. Calder really liked the gun salute and the trumpets playing.

One of my fondest and most fun memories is putting pennies on the railroad tracts to be smashed. Here my dad is teaching Calder how its done. He's listening and feeling for vibration on the tract to find out which is the main line so we know where to put the pennies. Sure enough after we heard the train whistle by a couple hours later, my dad found all 5 pennies and Calder was so excited about how they looked smashed.
